ETAD 873 - Instructional Design

Instructional Design with Dr. Marguerite Koole was my 7th class and it focused on the world of Instructional Design.  We worked our way through the various aspects of Instructional Design from beginning to our first prototype.

The front end analysis helped me better understand my learners by completing a needs assessment, learner analysis and context analysis.

Next we dug into task and content analysis and writing objectives and evaluation.

We continued to dig into Strategies used in the Prototype and examine which methods work best.

Next up was learning more about the value of usability testing and formal evaluation.

  • Assignment 4

  • Along with a usability checklist and sample prototype.

Connections....

Color By Amber:

ETAD 873 enabled me to step deeper into the world of instructional design in a real life situation.  I was my own client and based on my program evaluation work earlier 873 allowed me to dig in deep and attempt to design a needed training resource for stylists.  As teachers we know the importance of Before, During and After strategies.  873 served as a timely reminder that it's always worth investing in the before strategies.  Even though you think it's going to take longer and it will, the time you invest in really getting to know your learner and what's needed to make the system more efficient is well worth it.  It enables you to be more efficient during the creation and ensure you have a relevant and useful end product.

ETAD 802 was the class that enabled me to finish the prototype model and move into the usability and evaluation phase of development.  So we will see after stylist feedback which part of the training makes the cut.

Education:

This class also encouraged me to think about how I can better support teachers in intentionally designing for students success.  So often in education we have to deal with things in the moment and we design as best we can, but there's value in stepping back and seeing the situation from a broader perspective.   As a Learning Consultant, I have the ability to support teachers and teams in attempting to see the bigger picture and I can help create the time for teachers and teams to thoughtfully plan responsive programming for students using the RtI process.
